Hi guise!! (That's my gender-neutral variation of 'guys' as a catch-all term of endearment). I finished watching the k-drama Knight Flower on [personal profile] china_shop's recommendation and IT WAS SO GOOD.

The heroine is a widow during the old-timey monarchy; her life is extremely restricted and it's actually similar to how widows are treated in my country/culture including in my own family just a couple generations ago. So she was immediately sympathetic to me. She becomes a masked vigilante at night, so that she can give herself something fulfilling to do, and her fight scenes are such fun!

Her love interest is a guy in law enforcement who is supposed to catch her but ends up wanting to protect her identity and aid her, which is DELICIOUS to me. He's so righteous in a non-bureaucratic way, I love it. And when he's jealous he's not scary jealous, he's cute pouty jealous, which is my FAVOURITE. It's a delicious slow burn but they don't even kiss at the end, which gave me the feeling of reading a fic tagged with edging and finding out it's actually orgasm denial. Speaking of fic, I have found a couple of fics in which they purportedly kiss, so I'm going to savour those!

I also binge-watched Season 2 of Deadloch, six episodes in two days. Shoutout to [personal profile] isabrella because I wouldn't have found out a second season was out now if you didn't mention it!

I'm still reblogging Yunho things on Tumblr despite the pain mixed with my usual adoration when he appears on my dashboard. I've weaned myself off an idol before, and forcing it doesn't work, so I'll see how I continue to feel, I guess. Vara talked to me about it, and she said a lot of people who have messy romantic relationships are decent in general/in their other relationships. I see her point, and I think any idol in his place would have done the same (not standing up for his girlfriend in order to protect his career). But I can't excuse him allowing her to think he was going to come back and make it up to her, if he had no intention to make good on those promises. Vara said it's not all on him to give her closure, but at the very least he should be honest with her about breaking up with her. He was neither honest nor kind.

I've been bleeding lightly since the 21st even though I had my moontime on the 8th this month. It's the second month I'm bleeding during my luteal phase. It's a good thing I've got cloth pads for light bleeds because imagine if I had to run through boxes of pads during my heavy periods and then had to use pads again for the irregular bleeds. I told Bella that I'm using one to two pads a day and she said she considers that a normal period because that's how much she bleeds during her period. We laughed mirthlessly about me calling it a 'light bleed'.

I've ordered chasteberry vitex tablets so I'm hoping those will reduce my estrogen dominance. I found out that poongar rice, a traditional rice variety from Tamil Nadu, is called 'women's rice' because it's got the nutrients needed for better menstrual health. I'm planning to start eating it for breakfast. It's got iron, magnesium, zinc and calcium. It's got as much protein as a similar serving of greek yoghurt, so with all the talk of protein in wellness spaces I'm surprised it isn't better known. Traditional and heirloom varieties of rice and millets seem to be pretty nutrient-dense, and I'd like to pop fewer vitamin pills.

Name: Mint

Age: 22

I mostly post about: Daily life and hobby updates

My hobbies are: I enjoy Vocaloid music, Vtubers, Anime/manga, literature, birdwatching, knitting and crochet, playing rhythm games. I'm also a programmer and may bring up tech stuff occasionally. I'm learning to draw.

My fandoms are: Current hyperfixation is NBA (go Nuggets). I keep up with F1 casually. I follow paleontology and aviation news. Currently reading JJBA, Chainsaw Man, slowly watching Dark Winds. Check my About Me sticky for the full list of stuff.

I'm looking to meet people who: Are also writing personal journals and forming community. Besides that, people who write or read more structured content. Such as personal journal, hobby updates, recipes, guides, media reviews, short stories. Bonus if you're posting outside of America (I'm from Southeast Asia myself).

My posting schedule tends to be: Few times a week.

When I add people, my dealbreakers are: Obviously don't be bigoted, though I assume most people on this site aren't. Probably won't come up often, but I'm not a big fan of people who post inflammatory or reactionary takes.

Before adding me, you should know: I will probably be posting about experiences with mental/physical health stuff, as I am AuDHD and am working through cPTSD. It won't be my main topic, but just a heads up that some of my posts will be heavy, and they'll have a content warning if they are.

Nicholas Brendon passed away.

This is honestly devastating. It's sad knowing how deeply troubled his life had become. I don't always pay that close attention to the personal lives of actors, however every time I heard about him over the years it was something revolving around his constant struggle with addiction which got him into various legal issues, and I kept on hoping that somehow he'd get himself better and back on the right track. I also recently learned about his health problems, too. It's just so sad and tragic.

Aside from his small roles on shows like Criminal Minds, I mostly only knew him from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and, while Xander Harris wasn't my favorite character, Nicholas did fantastically in the role, providing much needed comedic relief along with emotional moments with the rest of the Scoobies.

Rest in peace.

Yay, journaling sites.

LiveJournal and Dreamwidth )

Bonus Questions:

06. If you have a LiveJournal, are you currently able to access it?
Well, I obviously had one, but once transferring all my entries to DW I deleted my LJ account. This was thankfully before all the shit that recently went down over there.

07. Do you have any information about why one would be unable to access LiveJournal?
I talked about it some while ago along with links with further information, but to put it simply the current owners are trying to divide its userbase and gatekeep the site. Some might still have access to their journals while others not, I haven't seen anything more on what is going on since this came to light, regardless though it's been advised for anyone who still has access to their LJ accounts there to save/transfer their journals and communities as soon as possible.

Hello. I'm Nanno. Nice to meet you. )

My Comments: My recent obsession has been Girl From Nowhere, specifically our delightfully unhinged main character Nanno. I've been looking at various fanvids being made, and these two stood out to me, with their respective song choices and editing. The first (which captions are to be turned on for dialogue) mostly is around the first season and just her various revenge plots, while the second just centers around Nanno at her best: being brilliantly deranged in the best way. No spoilers are given in either, just Nanno being Nanno, and just a glimpse as to why I enjoy the character so much.

Work yesterday left me incredibly frustrated. The ducks that are nibbling me to death have mutated to giant size and with razor-sharp beaks. Because I was so frustrated, I decided I needed to reread one of the most disturbing sets of Hannibal AU fics I've ever encountered: A Gifted Student and A Letter to My Abuser. They're gorgeously, awfully written. (If you decide to read them, pay close attention to the tags oh god pay close attention to them.)

A Letter to My Abuser is, in some ways, the harder read for me, because when I first read it I tried to figure out why I identified so hard with a side character; Ollie, so giddy to meet his literary idol, but forcibly warned/ran off by this AU version of Will Graham. When I read it last night, my brain went "ohhhhh, yeah, Neil Gaiman", and then I had to read some fluffy fic to scrub my brain.

I hope his victims get closure. And that they win the legal actions against him, because they deserve the money they're suing for.

---

EDITED TO ADD: I used to subscribe to FKAHerSweetness' Ko-Fi, as she left Ao3 and only posted her fic behind a paywall. I eventually ended my subscription because as time went on, I didn't enjoy how she wrote Will. She writes AUs only, and more power to her, but they became something I didn't want to read.

My partner was out for a walk given the unusually warm weather we've been having. He texted me excitedly that he thought the swan might be back. (Some of you may remember we got a weeklong visit from one last year).

Then as he came closer he realized the swan seemed unmoving and stiff...

Clearing Out

This past weekend the weather was lovely, so I took on the project of taking out the massive, invasive butterfly bush that was planted by the previous owners. It's been on the to do list for ages, and I'm very happy to have it finally done! We've so much more space now, and we won't have to worry about constant pruning to keep it from growing over the garden path. I thought for sure I was going to have to take up part of the path to dig it out, but somehow the roots were positioned such that it barely disturbed the path at all. I did relocate a number of strawberries and a few bulbs, but I had been planning on moving them anyway, so no loss there.

I also cleared out dead growth from the square plot and found a lot of new calendula coming up, which is always exciting to see. I'm hopeful that I won't need to plant anything new in that bed, and that everything will have either self-seeded or will come back up on its own as the weather warms. My goal is to have most of the garden full of perennials and self-seeding annuals so I've less to do in terms of planting every year, but there's still lots of space to fill, so it'll be a couple of years yet before that's realized.

And in the backyard, I got the nettle potted up! It would be exciting to see that flourish this summer - safely far away from places people walk, and helpfully contained so as not to cause A Problem. I still want a few more pots out there for other aggressive spreaders - I have lemon balm I need to relocate from the front, and various other seeds in the mint family I'd like to plant without them taking over.

This morning I went to check out the big insect hotel near the canal and I was just in time to catch a whole bunch of male European orchard bees who I am fairly sure had just hatched (the females will hatch a little later in the year).

++ We finally got the teaser trailer for Dune Messiah (yes, it's titled Dune: Part Three, but it's adapting Dune Messiah instead of part of the first book like the first two movies and therefore I will call it as such). First, this music in this trailer is phenomenal, just like with the previous trailers for these films it really demonstrates the grand scale of how epic this story is. Secondly, even just seeing little bits has me very, very stoked, especially the mentioning of Ghanima and Leto II's names. I may have some nitpicks with Denis Villeneuve's creative choices here and there throughout these movies, but it doesn't lessen my excitement to see this one. If he manages to get this right, the reactions to it are going to be very interesting, indeed.

++ Felicia Day will crowdfund for a movie spin-off of her webseries, The Guild.

Again, a pleasantly unexpected surprise announcement that totally caught me off guard! The Guild remains one of my favorite first ever webseries that I watched, and I even have the DVDs that were later made available to purchase because I adored it so much. I know that there was a musical stage reading that was done of The Guild with Felicia recently, so naturally this would be the next step. I hope the crowdfunding will be successful so she can make this happen.

++ Girl From Nowhere is a Thai mystery thriller drama that I've recently gotten into. It's an anthology centering around a mysterious girl named Nanno who transfers to different private schools each episode to expose the lies and misdeeds of the students and faculty. It's utterly fascinating. Nanno, who is quickly revealed to the audience as a mysterious immortal entity, is delightfully unhinged, even more so in the second season, and I like that the acts of revenge are done as a way for characters to experience karma of their wrongdoings. Although the drama premiered in 2018 and has two seasons, Girl From Nowhere: The Reset just recently premiered as a re-imagined reboot of the franchise, theorized to be set in an alternate universe with another girl as Nanno, this time played by Becky Armstrong (known mostly from being paired with Freen Sarocha in various Thai GL dramas). I have only just discovered this drama franchise, so I like both actresses who play Nanno. In general, this drama is dark and twisted, but in a fascinating way that I do so enjoy.
