October, here we come!

++ The trailer for Critical Role's 4th campaign was revealed, with the premiere date of October 2nd. That's very soon, much sooner than I had thought. Not that I'm complaining, of course. After my complicated feelings regarding the third campaign, I'm ready for this refreshing switch-up. I've already seen the character art, and listening to Brennan's monologue in the trailer it certainly has piqued my curiosity on what the campaign is going to be about.

++ The newest addition to the V/H/S franchise, V/H/S/Halloween, has also released a trailer and will be premiering October 3rd. I had no idea that there was another one already, but I'm not entirely shocked either. This features two of my favorite things: the V/H/S franchise and Halloween. I'm all in.

👋*wavey wavey*👋

Name: Kia (They/Them)

Age: 20s

About Me: Been on dreamwidth for about five months now. For a while I've mostly used my journal as a personal diary, but recently I've wanted to make more public posts about the various things I enjoy. I've kind of distanced myself from being online everywhere else, but I'm still up for meeting new people here. I'm ideally looking for other active journals to read and maybe become mutuals with. Don't have to be in the same fandoms, but as long as we have some common interests then that's good enough for me.

I mostly post about: Just whatever I get up to in the week (mostly shorter posts). I'm also trying to make a habit of journaling any media I get into, but that's definitely a skill I need to work on.

My hobbies are: Writing, music, language learning, reading, gaming

My fandoms are: Various anime, comics, games etc. that I can't list out (my interests tend to change a lot)

I'm looking to meet people who: Neurodivergent and/or queer people, nerds who post about fandom/media often (especially meta stuff but that's just personal preference), people interested in languages, people who post about cooking or just anyone who wants to see me scream into the void about things that vaguely matter to me

My posting schedule tends to be: Anytime I want

When I add people, my dealbreakers are: Anyone under 18, not too picky with anything else but as long as we still click in some way then we're good (I think me saying that I'm queer should be enough of a signal though)

Before adding me, you should know:
  • Don't give out access to people unless we've been mutuals for awhile or already know each other.
  • Occasional venting and suggestive/nsfw posts (you can read the terms in my intro post for more info)

Prime directive: exterminate the whole human race

The title is because every time there's a Rapture predicted, I listen to Astro Zombies. It seems appropriate.

---

As some of you may have noticed from my shrieking on social media yesterday, My Chemical Romance announced tour dates for 2026. The closest they're coming to me is San Diego or L.A., and yes, discussions are being had about which show I should try to purchase tickets for. EXCEPT that I'll have to purchase those tickets later, because they go on sale on Friday, right when I'll be in the office for an all-day meeting.
:: wails ::

The Stroppy One pointed out that more tickets always become available closer to the concert dates, and while I know he's right, that doesn't sooth the wailing fangirl part of my brain. Stupid work calibration meetings.

---

Yesterday I discovered the clothing company Market of Stars, and specifically this duster. I flailed a lot about in on Bluesky and Tumblr, because my god that is pretty and I already thought of two different outfits I could use it with. To my complete shock, someone who's followed me for years and years sent me the money for it, saying they wanted to spread some kindness. I am shocked but grateful.

---

IG has started showing me a lot of witchy content. Not just the aesthetic IG witches, but people who's approaches are similar to mine. I don't know why the algorithm started doing that, but I prefer it to the hordes of "alt" makeup tutorials done by baby faced, dripping with collagen youngsters. (I found all of them adorable, but found myself muttering "Okay, now show me how to do that with permanent eye bags" a lot.)

---

As many of you know, my company hosts the all-hands Company Kick-Off event at the beginning of every year in Phoenix AZ, and there's always a costume theme for the first day. The 2026 theme is ... teams. Any way someone wants to interpret that, but of course all the examples were sports-related. But! I came up with a brilliant idea and presented it to my team: we all carry notepads and oversized pencils, and ta-da! We're the writing team. My peeps liked it, so that's what we're doing.

Movie Review: Satan's School For Girls

I have recently watched two versions of Satan's School for Girls, the original 1973 one and the 2000 remake. I initially saw the 2000 version when it aired (because of Shannen Doherty and Julie Benz), however I only caught the tail end of it and never saw the movie in full. It took some time before finding it, and then I watched the 1973 version to compare. Both which were made-for-television movies, both were produced by Aaron Spelling, and both have their own strengths and weaknesses and unique takes on the story being told.

The premise is about a young woman who, after discovering the mysterious death of her sister and not being convinced it was a mere suicide, goes to investigate at her sister's university to discreetly find out the truth of what happened, and as soon as she arrives strange things start happening.

The original 1973 version. )

The 2000 remake. )

My final thoughts, comparing and contrasting the two movies. )

I definitely don't want it to happen considering the current state of media we're in, but I cannot help but wonder what another modern remake of Satan's School for Girls would look like today, just conceptually.

Weekend Visiting

Weekend was pretty nice. Aaron decided he wanted to get some take out from Noodle Box on Saturday, and as we were picking it up some friends messaged to see if we wanted to meet up for dinner later. To which we said 'sure', since we had literally nothing planned for the weekend any way.

We met up at 6:30pm at a tap house restaurant they'd eaten lunch at before (we hadn't gone to it before, so a brand new experience for us).

We had a lovely time chatting and catching up with them. That part was fantastic.

The only downsides was the restaurant. It looked very nice, and had water front views from the inside tables as well as a patio with even better views of the water...
But the service was unbelievably slow for how empty the place was. At all times there were three staff people just sort of hanging out not doing much, yet it took over 15 minutes before they even came over to check if we were ready to order, and another 20+ minutes to actually get the food. So it was well after 7pm by the time we got served.
There were a Lot of fruit flies buzzing around, so that was sort of ick, but since the door to the patio was open it wasn't surprising.
The worst was the music they had on was overly loud (probably not so bad for the people eating outside, but we were inside), and I swear that they turned up the music even louder after 7:30, as we really had trouble hearing each other talk at that point. *bleh*  The music wasn't bad, all stuff that was enjoyable, but the volume was a bit crazy.

By 7:40pm they started doing what looked like their 'it's time to go' clean up of things (they close at 8pm), so we took the hint and paid our bills and went outside to chat by our cars for a bit longer, before heading our separate ways.

I don't know if the place was just done with people on that night, or what, but it didn't leave a great impression on us. Maybe lunch time is the sweet spot for getting good service there? Our friends said it was nice (and even emptier) when they had lunch there a few weeks back. *shrugs*

Who knows.  We're undecided about going back there, as last night could have just been a one off. Have to think on it for the next time we all meet up.

Today has been mostly a relaxed day at home before the new week begins. Kitties have their vet check-up visits coming up (Older 2 on Wednesday, Younger 2 on Friday). Which they all Hate. *lol* But once it's done they have a year before it happens again. 😄👍

Trying the dreamwidth thing again!

Name: Celestial

Age: 31

I mostly post about:

my personal life, thoughts, day to day stuff. Sometimes mental health/trauma related stuff. Crafts, occasional outfit photos. Cat pics. I also recently did a huge family photo archiving project, so I want to share some cool old photos and what I know about the people in them.

My hobbies are:

I like dabbling in different types of crafts. Primarily into making beaded jewelry, but I've also been learning stained glass this year and that is really cool. Trying to get into reading again. Taking photos, doing home DIYs, watching a lot of movies and TV. I like fashion, but don't dress up much lately (trying to fix that).

My fandoms are:

not a huge fandom head in the traditional sense anymore. I'm a diehard My Chemical Romance fan since I was literally 10 years old. Also a big Nicolas Cage fan, almost finished with a quest to see every single movie of his. Can't think of many others off the top of my head but I fixate on stuff for a while and then forget about it.

I'm looking to meet people who:

are also neurodivergent (audhd here). have a wealth of different experiences and points of view. anyone who is willing to read and occasionally comment.

My posting schedule tends to be:

I'm aiming for once a week this time around, but may be more or less depending on what's going on in my life.

When I add people, my dealbreakers are:

No TERFs, no centrists or republicans, no Zionists. I don't care if you're personally religious but I'm not and don't appreciate that perspective in regards to my own life. No Harry Potter fans, it's lame if you're still into that given... everything. Don't be a shithead in general. And probably no one under 21.

Before adding me, you should know: Hmm. As I said, there may be the occasional post about mental health/trauma stuff. I'm also regrettably a true crime enjoyer, i rarely talk about it but if I do I'll tag. Unsure about anything else that might be relevant

Miss Ophelia (the middle grey cat) usually only tolerates Elvis & Beanie.

Beanie is very leery of Ophelia's motives, and Elvis is trying to stay statue still so Ophelia doesn't chomp him. 😄

All was well this time.
They all behaved peacefully and Ophelia wandered off after a while. Phew

I mostly post about: Whatever is on my mind, also my daily poetry when I'm happy enough with it to share.

My hobbies are: Poetry, paganism, witchcraft, and so much music. I'm big into all things gothy: darkwave and coldwave, post-punk, synthpop, new wave, industrial, metal, and just outright werid shit. Oh, and I do competitive air guitar.

My fandoms are: Star Trek and Trek-adjacent stuff, also I'm deep in the fandom for various bands, especially DEVO.

I'm looking to meet people who: Post interesting stuff. Bonus points if you're trans or some other flavor of queer.

My posting schedule tends to be: I'm aiming for a couple posts a week.

When I add people, my dealbreakers are: No minors, no TERFs, no Nazis, no Evangelical Christians, no Harry Potter.

Before adding me, you should know: I write some pretty emotional, and sometimes sexually oriented poetry. I've precious little filter about adult topics.

back again!

name: squid

age: 21

location: midwestern united states

i post about: i'm into a lot of things but what i end up posting about are monthly periodical-types of the music i discover and listen to (free for anybody to access) and the general musings and feelings of an anxious college guy (behind an access lock). i might someday make a dedicated post about history or politics or literature but i rarely feel like i have any meaningful contribution to what could be said. that's a very broad characterization but check my about me on my profile for a slightly more detailed synopsis

my hobbies are: my whole life revolves around music, more or less :] i listen to music extensively (squid771 on last.fm and rateyourmusic), collect vinyl records, and go to college studying sound engineering (i'm a senior!). i have an off-again, on-again recording project that i'll someday release something under. i play guitar, i'm an untrained singer, and i play various keyboard instruments. i always try to watch movies but usually that means i'll just gather a bunch, watch 2 in one night, and then go 6 months without watching another. i'm trying to read more (5 books read this year; infinitely times more than the past couple of years), i'm big into history (currently researching the george mcgovern 1972 campaign, and concurrently the history of how the word socialism/communism got such a negative connotation in the U.S.), and i like to walk around at night, or in the rain, or both. i try to appreciate the little things. i want to write, and learn esperanto, but i've never found enough consistent motivation to try either

my fandoms are: i haven't really considered myself to be really big enough on anything to be part of a fandom, but some of my favorite bands/artists are fishmans, stereolab, broadcast, nick drake, elliott smith, the radio dept., the field mice (all of sarah records really), brian eno, yo la tengo, ichiko aoba, and many many others! i could talk about music for days and days. as far as like forms of media go i'm big into the trails series (games 1-5, trails and crossbell; cold steel ruined the franchise), deltarune (haven't played undertale but i generally know what happens by osmosis), off, team fortress 2, and disco elysium; and then cowboy bebop, samurai champloo, NGE, general 2000s adult swim-core type stuff for anime

i'm looking to meet people who: i put a post up here about 6 months ago when i first started this account and i did get a lot of responses but nearly all of the people that replied to me aren't active anymore. i'm looking for people to really connect with and are in this site for the long haul (or at least for a while). i'm not too picky about sharing interests but having mutual appreciation for something always helps. the main thing though is that i'm just trying to make more friends :]

my posting schedule tends to be: whenever i feel like there's enough going enough in my life to post about something. this is usually like 2 to 5 times a month. i do tend to get wordy in my posts for what that's worth

when I add people, my dealbreakers are: i'm a very vague socialist so i'm not particularly chill with MAGA types or people who are just unnecessarily rude but i think there's like only 2 people on this site with those beliefs anyways

before adding me, you should know: i don't really comment much but i read everything that's posted. i get in my own head about responding to/posting comments and not feeling like i have enough to say. but i'm always looking to talk to more people and come out of my shell
i'm very depressed and mildly autistic and can be in my head a lot of the time, so the posts behind my access lock can get mopey and despondent. i'm doing the best i can to grapple with my emotions and the world around me so a little bit of empathy goes a long way. we're all going through something

Moontime began today. My cramps were affecting me even before my moontime began. I got skin patches that are supposed to be for sleep, because they have magnesium, L-theanine and valerian which also relieve cramps. I tried them and they work! The patches also have melatonin and chamomile and so on for sleep, but wearing one during the day didn't make me sleepy. Taking a walk for an hour helped ease the cramps, too.

My gut is absolutely wrecked though, and I don't know what to do about that. It's utterly exhausting me. Probably the prostaglandins going overboard.

I started watching Bon Appetit, Your Majesty in which a modern-day chef goes back in time to the Joseon era and captivates people's tastebuds, ending up in the royal kitchens. I was expecting it to be cozy but while the cooking and eating bits are cozy, the rest of it is hella stressful because the royals are all pieces of work and the male lead is a tyrant king. Our chef is in mortal danger every episode even though all she's trying to do is cook and get by peacefully until she can find her way back to 2025 😭 not the ideal moontime watch, so I'm looking for something else. I do have a bunch of cozy fantasy books amassed from a couple of sales. I'm currently reading an ARC of Lidiya Foxglove's Wanted: Brooding Man, Tragic Past which releases in a couple of days and which is delightful. Not cozy but not uncozy either, and that's a middle ground I enjoy.

Mount Shasta and Entering San Francisco

In our final few days we left Oregon, though stayed the night just outside its border in Mount Shasta. The mountain is clearly seen looming over the city but we could see it for many miles as we headed south and finally passed into California.

I wrote a goodbye note in lipstick on your arm

- I had a dream last night where I was in some sort of high-end, very posh mall, and spent ages looking at a mysterious cosmetics counter that had lipsticks that were exact matches for the OG Chanel Vamp and MAC Verushka. They had tubes of those discontinued lipsticks to swatch and match. I woke up as my dream self was about to spend $160 for two lipsticks. I'll admit I'd be tempted to do that in real life if the company did indeed have the OG tubes to swatch against.

- The US leg of the MCR tour ended last weeked. HOWever, as of yesterday, new ads related to MCR have been seen in New York, Detroit, Minneapolis, and San Diego. Some are just spray painted logos in parking lots outside of stadiums, but some have been bulletin boards and signs of either one or more of the band in the Black Parade uniform, or the Keposhka MCR logo. The fandom, no surprise, are losing our MINDS. Does this mean there's going to be another US leg of the tour? If there is, does it mean more weird storyline/lore that the band is potentially in some sort of stasis or time loop? (I won't give you the whole breakdown, but over the course of the tour Gerard has become more and more corpse-like; paler, wounds on his face, etc., and he's stabbed to death at the end of each Black Parade segment of the concert. There's more. There's a lot more.) Does this mean there's going to be a DVD or something? Should I start saving money for tickets and travel just in case? Who knows? Not the fandom, that's for sure.

- I've been tired ALL THE TIME lately. I'm sure some of it is the ambient stress level we're all dealing with plus the ongoing varying stress levels of work, but the rest may be my chronic health issues flaring up? My body trying to stage a coup and force me to rest? I don't like any of these answers.

- I'm finally getting back into a rhythm of witchy things. I'm pulling a tarot card most days, and I did some ritual work this week. It felt good. I need to do more, because it helps me approach things with more clarity and giving myself grace. And whooooo-boy, do I need both of those things.

So! How are you folks doing?

Returning to This Website

Name: Nix/Nyx or other names (they/them or any pronouns).

Age: 28.

I mostly post about: I'll probably post about my life the most consistently. I might also post writings and about my creative projects in general. Overall, I think I'll mainly use this blog/journal to process thoughts or ideas and to help me remember things, as I have a terrible memory. Maybe I'll post song lyrics and/or poetry I come up with, too.

My hobbies are: Making music, listening to music, gaming (I play a variety of games), reading (manga, graphic novels, articles, books, etc.), writing, streaming (I'm currently streaming as a VTuber), content creation, and more. I also recently started drawing again with digital art and go on the occasional hike.

My fandoms are: This is going to be embarrassing, but I'm not sure what counts as a "fandom." Maybe I'm overthinking the definition? Either way, I don't think I am a part of any specific fandoms right now, but that could change. Some things I like that I can think of right now are Okami (for nostalgia reasons) and Baldur's Gate 3.

I'm looking to meet people who: I'm mostly looking for more people around my age. It's a plus if you're also LGBTQIA+, disabled, or neurodivergent, and it's even better if we share interests.

My posting schedule tends to be: This time around (I used this website a while back), I'll probably post pretty sporadically overall. In the past, there were points where I almost posted daily, so that might happen again.

When I add people, my dealbreakers are: I'm okay-ish with differing opinions as long as it's nothing too major, but that's probably a thin line I don't even fully understand yet. (I like keeping my mind open to new ideas if others will do the same.) However, I do draw the line at right-winged people and centrists. That's all I'm going to put for now. Oh, and please be at least 20 years old. Thank you.

Before adding me, you should know: I struggle with my mental and physical health and will probably post about that a lot. For similar reasons (mostly related to my energy levels and shyness), I also have a hard time commenting on posts, but I'm trying to overcome that. Responding to DMs can be even worse, even though I do appreciate messages from people.

The ol' chronic illness has been striking again the last few days. Can't begin to guess at what set it off, but I'm setting about making myself as comfortable as possible. I went thrifting yesterday and found a comfy sweatshirt and jogger set. Perfect for the weather here right now, which is in its can't-decide-what-it-wants-to-be phase. My friend has been taking some probiotics that she found helped (she shares some symptoms with me) so I've started on those. Also have some ayurvedic medicine.

My Dreamwidth paid time has run out but I think I'll wait until December to renew it, for the points bonus. In the meanwhile it's actually kind of restful not having to pick from a hundred icons? Maybe I need to downsize.

I was watching this Korean vlog for language practice and it's lovely even if you don't understand the language (I didn't understand all of it). She seems to be making accessories for pets, dogs and cats mostly. And selling them at some sort of fair or convention for pet owners? We get to see many cute pets wearing gingham bow hair accessories that look like hairclips but aren't: they're actually tiny combs that sit in their fur without pressing. Smartly and adorably designed.

++ Although I was aware of it as it was happening, just reading about the kinktober shenanigans that happened a while ago, from the various posts summarizing it to the jokes, not only was I baffled and amused it also got me thinking that this is the kind of fandom nonsense I much prefer reading about. Less exhausting fandom wank "discourse" and more just pure ridiculousness.

++ It was recently announced that Life Is Strange is getting a television series adaptation. This technically isn't news as fans of the game have long been waiting for it since the initial announcement about a television show being made since 2016, however aside from that there were no further information of anything going forward so most assumed that this was yet another project either silently dropped or in development hell. With Amazon acquiring the rights to produce the show, this makes it more likely to become a reality.

As someone fond of the first game, I have thoughts on this reality. )
